Two Men Join Monastic Community As Novices

Two men have joined the Saint Vincent monastic community as novices. They will spend a year in discernment as they learn about life as Benedictine monks.

Brother Aelred (Caleb), Whitlock (at left in photo) is the son of Scott and Elyse Whitlock of Mount Holly, North Carolina. He graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, then earned a bachelor of arts degree in music from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 2019.

Brother John Fisher (Liam) Helms is the son of Charles M. Helms of Athens, Alabama, and Sherri Davenport Brennan of Toney Alabama. He is a 2000 graduate of Hazel Green High School. He studied photography, television, radio and film production at Calhoun College. Brother John Fisher was a member of the Society of the Divine Savior in Milwaukee and has studied at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans as well as Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology in Milwaukee and Saint Mary of the Lake, Mundelein, Illinois.
