Albert Gahr was working with the U.S.D.A. in Morgantown, West Virginia, having just completed his doctoral work, when his pastor, in a homily at Mass, told parishioners to pray for the seven men in the parish who had a vocation. “That’s nice,” Albert thought, and was surprised when, a few days later, his pastor told him “You’re one of them.” He’s still a scientist, but now, he’s also a monk at Saint Vincent Archabbey and a professor at Saint Vincent College. And, his pastor, once a diocesan priest, is now an abbot at a Benedictine monastery.
For more information on vocations, visit the Archabbey Vocation website, or to arrange a visit fill out this form. The next “Come and See” weekend for men considering a call to monastic life and priesthood is May 23-25, 2025. There will be another “Come and See” in July.
