Tenebrae Concerts Scheduled

Saint Vincent Camerata Scholars will perform Tenebrae, a concert celebrating the themes of the Easter Triduum at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica, Latrobe, and at 7:30 p.m. Palm Sunday, April 1 at Holy Trinity Church, Ligonier. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

The Camerata Scholars, a 12-member a cappella choir, will perform a program that includes Gregorian chant, and works by Palestrina, Victoria, Liszt, Refice, Charles Ives, Rene Clausen and Arvo Pärt.

Under the direction of Father Stephen Concordia, O.S.B., the Camerata Scholars recently produced a CD of sacred choral music from the Renaissance that was distributed internationally by Jade Music, a division of Milan Entertainment of Paris and Los Angeles that specializes in the production and distribution of sacred music. It is entitled, A Blessed Day Has Dawned, Sacred Choral Music: Palestrina, Laude, Gregorian Chant.

Father Stephen is a Benedictine monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey who is also assistant professor of music at Saint Vincent College, where he teaches music theory and conducts summer workshops in Gregorian Chant. He is choirmaster of the Archabbey and director of the Saint Vincent Schola Gregoriana. He holds degrees in piano and theoretical studies from the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, and diplomas in organ and Gregorian chant from the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music, Rome.
