Special Ornament Marks Anniversary

A special ornament created in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Saint Vincent founder Boniface Wimmer, O.S.B., is now available. The images on the ornament reflect the life and important influences of Boniface Wimmer and his mission to America. The collage was designed by Father Vincent de Paul Crosby, O.S.B.

The coat of arms of Thalmassing, Bavaria, Archabbot Wimmer’s birthplace, is located in the upper left hand corner superimposed on the Bavarian Flag. The statue of Archabbot Wimmer in the town square of Thalmassing is featured on the left side of the ornament. Behind Wimmer is the Saint Vincent Mission Cross that is presented to monks when they are sent on foreign missions. The Metten Abbey image is in the center, and this is where Archabbot Wimmer entered the Benedictine community. King Ludwig I, the primary benefactor of Wimmer, is placed in the upper right hand corner of the ornament.

The ornament, which retails for $15, is available online at www.stvincentstore.com, at the Basilica Gift Shop, first floor of the Parish Center, and in the college bookstore.
