Brother Martinho Zevallos Chávez, who will be ordained to the priesthood on August 18, has been named the new novice master at São Bento Priory in Brazil.
A 2018 graduate of Saint Vincent Seminary, he is the son of Luis Ariel Zevallos Perez and Teresa Sara Chávez de Zevallos of Arequipa, Peru. He graduated from Coronel Gregorio Albarracin, Tacna, Peru, in 1989 and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Agustin, Arequipa, Peru, in 1995. He also has a doctorate in physics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, 2003.
He professed simple vows on September 14, 2011 at the Archabbey’s dependent priory in Brazil on August 17, 2014 before Father Prior Paulo Panza, O.S.B. He was ordained to the diaconate on July 15, 2017 by Archbishop Airton José dos Santos in Brazil.
While attending Saint Vincent Seminary, he served the Archabbey as assistant to the director, Foreign Mission Office (2012-2018); socius of novices and postulants (2015-2018); assistant to the director of vocations (2015-2018); assistant to the prior (2013-2017).
