A monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey has written a new book on Benedictine monasticism through Sacred Winds Press of Augusta, Missouri. Prayer, Study, and Work: Renewing the Benedictine Ideal by Daniel J. Heisey, O.S.B., was released this fall. The 76-page book retails for $13.95.

Daniel J. Heisey, also known as Brother Bruno, explores what Benedictines and other Christians immersed in a modern suburban culture can learn from the vision of monastic saints such as Benedict and Basil. Using the documents of the Second Vatican Council and other texts, Heisey, of Mechanicsburg, meditates upon ways to pursue a path of renewal through the Benedictine ideals of prayer, study, and work.

A graduate of the University of Cambridge, and Saint Vincent Seminary, he is a 1984 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree with honors, in Latin and history from Dickinson College in 1988. He is former Deputy Recorder of Deeds for Cumberland County. He is an adjunct faculty member of Saint Vincent Seminary.

He entered the novitiate at Saint Vincent Archabbey in July of 2001, and made his first vows on July 10, 2002. He made solemn profession of vows on July 11, 2005.

He has published widely in such publications as The American Benedictine Review, Cistercian Studies Quarterly, and Homiletic and Pastoral Review.
