Saturday, January 28, 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the Day of Fire and Ice at Saint Vincent, the fire that destroyed many of the buildings on campus and that came very close to the Basilica.
That day prompted the creation of the Saint Vincent Fire Department and one of Saint Vincent’s most beloved monks was put in charge: Brother Patrick Lacey, O.S.B.
