The loss of Archabbot Paul R. Maher, O.S.B., is the cover story of this issue. Archabbot Paul served as the tenth Archabbot of Saint Vincent and was abbot from 1983 until 1990. Father Canice McMullen was ordained to the priesthood. Newly-elected Abbot Primate Gregory Polan, O.S.B., visited. Brother Joachim Morgan, O.S.B., and Brother Lawrence Machia, O.S.B., were ordained deacons. Among the Benedictines professing solemn vows were Brother Ignatius Camello, Brother Matthew Hershey and Father Robert Keffer. The Camerata performed in Italy. Father Rene Kollar, O.S.B., announced a new book. A memorial concert, featuring Maestro Manfred Honeck, and a Mass were held to honor the passing of Ambassador Daniel M. Rooney, chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers. A baking tradition with Father Ananias and a food bank project by Father Thaddeus were featured. Father Paschal Morlino, O.S.B., brought a Catholic radio station to Baltimore. John J. Degnan, chairman of the board of commissioners of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, was to give the Red Mass address.
