The Saint Vincent Gristmill General Store will celebrate its one-year anniversary with a number of events and activities. Located on Beatty Road, the Gristmill is on the National Register of Historic Places, and features a Museum with items from the Gristmill and other old tools and equipment relating to the baking of Saint Vincent Bread.

A special feature of the day will be the official debut of a free 8 1/2 minute video showing the operation of milling from the wheat fields to the grinding to the flour bag. It will become a permanent feature in the museum.

Father Omer U. Kline, O.S.B., author of The Saint Vincent Archabbey Gristmill and Brewery, will be available to autograph copies of the book from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, and to talk about the history of the Gristmill. Cynthia Bombach Helzel, who has authored A Farm Heritage Album: Fifty years of Westmoreland County farming history told through the photographs and stories of those who lived them, will autograph copies of her book from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Br. Placid Cremonese, O.S.B., once a baker of the famed Saint Vincent Bread, will provide musical entertainment with his guitar on Sunday afternoon.

There will also be free samples of bread and cornbread, bran muffins, preserves, jams and jellies, flavored coffees and specialty teas. Visitors to the mill can also register to win free merchandise.

The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6 and from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 7 for the anniversary weekend. Regular store hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, and from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Sundays.
