Cemetery Website Has New Features

The website for Saint Vincent Cemetery received a new look this spring and work will continue this summer to add new features to the site.

Among the new features are maps of the various sections of the cemetery, and a listing of veterans buried in the cemetery. Still to come will be adding obituaries for forthcoming burials. Father Warren Murrman, O.S.B., has contributed to the history of the cemetery now on the website.

The members of cemetery staff—Manager Dennis Garman and Caroline Kollar—have long been interested in keeping records of the veterans buried there. They have been faithfully placing flags on the graves to honor the veterans prior to Memorial Day. But many others have been interested in honoring the veterans buried in the cemetery: local historians, genealogists, members of Scout troops, Saint Vincent College students, and family members. The gravesite listing as it appears on the website is a compilation of the work of many of the above. The list currently features hundreds of veterans from many wars, including the Civil War and the War of 1812. As additional research is completed more names are being added to the list. Persons wishing to contribute to the research on this work in progress should contact the Cemetery office at info@saintvincentcemetery.com.

Additionally, Garman has been going through old maps of the cemetery plots and with the assistance of the Archabbey Public Relations staff, they are being redrawn and put online. Plot maps of seven of the sections are now available on the website.
