Cardinal Kasper Ordained Brother Elijah Joseph To Diaconate

Brother Elijah Joseph Cirigliano, O.S.B., was ordained to the diaconate on June 13, the Feast of Saint Anthony, at the Church of Sant’ Anselmo in Rome. He was ordained by Cardinal Walter Kasper, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

Brother Elijah Joseph began graduate studies at Santa Croce University in Rome in 2009, and is residing at the International Benedictine University in Rome, Sant’ Anselmo.

He is the son of Caesar and Patricia Cirigliano of Waccabuc, New York. He is a 1990 graduate of John Jay High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from Duke University in 1993. He studied at Saint Vincent Seminary from 2006 to 2009. He entered the novitiate of Saint Vincent Archabbey in 2005. He made first profession of monastic vows on July 10, 2006 and solemn profession of vows on July 11, 2009. He served on the faculty of Saint Vincent College from 2006-2008, and was a liturgical musician for campus ministry from 2006 to 2009. In 2006 he was named assistant organist and assistant choirmaster/schola director for the Archabbey.
