Brother Bosco (Douglas John) Hough, O.S.B., a 2018 graduate of Saint Vincent College, made solemn profession of monastic vows, or vows for life, on July 11, 2024.
He graduated from West Shamokin Junior/Senior High School, Pennsylvania, in 2014 and studied early childhood and special education at Saint Vincent College, graduating in with a Bachelor of Science degree.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he was a graduate fellow at the Ligonier Valley School District from 2018-2020, women’s middle school volleyball coach in the school district from 2018-2019 and worked with the Laurel Valley Getting Ahead Program and the Laurel Valley Morning STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Program, all while undertaking graduate studies at Saint Vincent College. He earned a Master of Science degree in special education from Saint Vincent in 2020.
Brother Bosco entered the novitiate of Saint Vincent Archabbey on July 1, 2020, and made simple, or first profession of vows, on July 10, 2021 before Archabbot Martin de Porres Bartel, O.S.B. He began studies at Saint Vincent Seminary in 2021.
While a college student, he was a residence hall assistant from 2016-2019, a tour guide and student ambassador, a job coach for the Bearcat B.E.S.T. (Building Excellence Through Skills Training) program, and a counselor and teacher at the Saint Vincent College Challenge Camp. He also took part in Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Kappa Delta Pi Education Honors Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, Alpha Chi Honors Society, and the Student Government Association, where he acted as executive board secretary.
Since professing first vows he has served as an assistant to the director of vocations (2021-2023), assistant to the director of mission advancement (2021-present), and assistant master of ceremonies (2021-present).
He is the son of Brian and Nicole Hough of Steubenville. His siblings are Nicole, Jacob (Sarah), Isaac, Hannah, Gianna, Noah, Aiden and Jonathan. He has two nephews, Micah and Caleb Hough.
