KDKA reporter Christopher DeRose visited Saint Vincent Archabbey on Wednesday, March 8 for a story on the baking ministry of Brother Angelo Lichtenstein, O.S.B., monastery baker (and seminarian at Saint Vincent Seminary). Brother Angelo, who hails from Sandyston, New Jersey, began baking for the monastic community in 2022. His products—which include bagels, hot cross buns, cinnamon rolls, gobs, and many varieties of bread, including Saint Vincent Bread—were offered to the general public via pre-order starting last Easter. Sales have taken off and most items sell out with 24 to 48 hours of the initial posting. He produces his baked goods with flour milled at the Saint Vincent Gristmill. The flour is all-natural and is available at the Gristmill General Store (www.saintvincentgristmill.com). His next big bake sale will be held for Easter and will be at the Saint Vincent Grove, a larger space which can accommodate the traffic. For details check back on the Gristmill website or follow Saint Vincent Archabbey and Seminary on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SaintVincentSeminary. DeRose’s report is tentatively scheduled to air on KDKA-TV News at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 10, and re-air on Saturday morning. The broadcast will also air on the station’s website at https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/local-news/.
