Bishop Kulick To Ordain One Priest, Four Deacons

Most Rev. Larry J. Kulick, J.C.L., Bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg, will ordain one priest and four deacons at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22 in the Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica. Four men are from Saint Vincent Archabbey and one is a seminarian from the Archdiocese of Beijing. The event will be livestreamed at this link.

PRIESTHOOD ORDINATION

Brother Cassian (Lamar) Edwards, O.S.B., was ordained to the diaconate on May 23, 2020 by Bishop Edward C. Malesic in the Basilica.  He will be ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Kulick.

He is the son of Angela Gonzalez of Metairie, Louisiana and the late Walton Lamar Edwards III. He is a 2007 graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School. He graduated from Our Lady of the Holy Cross College in 2011 with a bachelor of arts degree in theology. He has also done a graduate course at Notre Dame Seminary, Louisiana. He began studies at Saint Vincent Seminary in 2016. He will receive the Master of Divinity degree from Saint Vincent Seminary on May 21.

He entered the novitiate of Saint Vincent Archabbey on July 1, 2015 and made simple profession of vows on July 10, 2016 and solemn profession of vows on July 11, 2019.

Prior to coming to Saint Vincent, he spent a year working in Louisiana as a youth minister. He began attending weeklong seminars at the Theology of the Body Institute in Exton, Pennsylvania. He enrolled in a certification program for Saint John Paul II’s teachings and began working with missionary groups known as “Generation Life” and the “Culture Project” to spread the message of the Theology of the Body.

DEACON ORDINATIONS

Brother Samuel Pinheiro, O.S.B., of Vinhedo, Brazil, is the son of Adão Jose Pinheiro and Vanía Aparecida Pedro Pinheiro of Limeíra, Brazil. He is a 2008 graduate of Colegio Pro Cotil, Limeíra, São Paulo, Brazil. He has a licentiate in philosophy degree (Ph.L. ) from the Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Campinas. He will receive the Master of Divinity degree from Saint Vincent Seminary on May 21.

 

Brother Francis Jin, O.S.B., is the son of Wuxing Jin and Xuezhen Li of Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, China. He graduated from Zhouzhi No. 6 High School, Xi’an, in 2005. He earned a bachelor of electrical engineering degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2009. He began studies at Saint Vincent Seminary in 2016, and in 2018, he received the master of arts degree in Catholic philosophical studies. He entered the novitiate at Saint Vincent Archabbey on July 1, 2015 and made simple profession of monastic vows on July 10, 2016. He professed solemn vows on July 11, 2019.

Brother Barnabas (Michael) O’Reilly, O.S.B., is the son of Lawrence and Eileen O’Reilly of Johnstown. He has two brothers, Russell and Patrick, and two sisters, Shannon and Kathleen. He is a 2008 graduate of Bishop McCort High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in biology in 2012 from Saint Vincent College. He began studies at Saint Vincent Seminary in 2016. In 2018, he received the master of arts degree in Catholic philosophical studies, cum laude. He entered the novitiate at Saint Vincent Archabbey on July 1, 2015 and made simple profession of monastic vows on July 10, 2016. He made solemn profession of vows on July 11, 2019.

Joseph Chen Guo of the Archdiocese of Beijing, China, is a 2010 graduate of Sheng Xin High School, Han Dan. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in Chinese linguistic literature from Beijing Normal University and has also studied at Beijing Diocesan Seminary. His parents are Jun Jian Guo and Pin Shu Wang of Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, China.
