Archabbey Magazine Wins National Awards

Kim Metzgar, director, and Jordan Hainsey, graphic designer, have won national awards from the Catholic Press Association for their work for Saint Vincent Archabbey publications.

Hainsey, of Hollidaysburg, earned a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Saint Vincent College in 2011, and joined the Archabbey Public Relations staff upon graduation. He received a third place in the national awards competition for best magazine color cover for his design of the Archabbey Magazine, Heart to Heart, and the cover “Saint Vincent Fire.” It is his first CPA award.

Judges noted that the cover was a “great combination of graphics and images melding old images with new. The simplicity of the cover blurb and the clean design really pulls the reader in. I want to read the story!”

Metzgar, of Derry, has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Seton Hill University, and has directed the Archabbey and Seminary Public Relations Office since 1997. Editor of Heart to Heart, she and designer Hainsey won a third place national award for general excellence, religious order magazines. Judges noted that “this magazine puts campus life at the center of its content and writes purpose into contemporary Catholic college life.” It is the third award for her work from CPA, in addition to her editorial work on a book award winner in 2006.
