Heart to Heart Receives Second Place National Award

Heart to Heart (now Saint Vincent Monks), the magazine of Saint Vincent Archabbey, won a second place Catholic Press Association Award in 2020 for Magazine/Newsletter of the Year: Religious Order Magazines and Print Newsletters for the year 2019. This is the sixth consecutive year in which the magazine has received CPA honors. Heart to Heart also earned CPA awards for general excellence, religious order magazine, second place in 2018; third place in 2017, 2016, 2015; best cover in 2014, third place, for the Saint Vincent Fire cover designed by Jordan Hainsey; third place recognition for Best Feature Article, Religious Order Magazines in 2014; and a third place in 2006, for the best issue on the papal transition for the tribute to Pope John Paul II.

According to the judges, “Basic information on a personal level elevates these publications. We get pictures and a story about the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp (because it is held at Saint Vincent College), a new food pantry, an accessibility ramp at Saint Vincent Basilica, and an arts exhibition plus updates of church leaders. Lots of plush photos to pull in readers, including pictures of a Fehenweihe Mass. If you don’t know what that is, check out the publication.”

The magazine is edited by Kim Metzgar, director of Archabbey and Seminary Public Relations.
Metzgar, of Derry, has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Seton Hill University, and has directed the Archabbey and Seminary Public Relations Office since 1997. It is the tenth award for her work from CPA, including a 2006 CPA book award for design and production for Saint Vincent Basilica: 100 Years, in addition to awards for her editorial work on So We Do Not Lose Heart, a 2018 winner for “backlist beauty,” and on book award winners, Renewed Each Morning (2016), and The Sunday Homilies (2015). The Archabbey’s publications have received a total of twelve national Catholic Press Awards under her direction.
