Three dozen monks affiliated with Saint Vincent Archabbey, and 45 Oblates—lay persons who strive to live a similar life—have contributed to a new book of commentaries on the Rule of Saint Benedict, founder of western monasticism. The Rule of Saint Benedict is a guide written in the sixth century that contains instructions for living in a monastery, spiritual wisdom on the basic monastic virtues of humility, silence, and obedience, as well as directives for daily living. Newly-released, The Rule in Bits and Pieces addresses how to apply these tenets to modern-day life. Read More

White, one in a continuing series of books reprinting the Wimmer Memorial Lecture Series. Mausoleum Dedication On November 8 Monday, September 29, 2014
Saint Vincent Archabbey will dedicate the Mary, Mother of Mercy Mausoleum Chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 8. The new mausoleum chapel is open to Catholic families from throughout the region, along with parishioners, alumni and neighbors who have looked to Saint Vincent as a place of worship, prayer and lifelong friendships. The Mary, Mother of Mercy Chapel offers a place for quiet meditation to remember and to pray for departed loved ones. Tours will be available following the ceremony. Read More

Three monks of Saint Vincent Archabbey will profess solemn vows, or vows for life at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11 in the Archabbey Basilica. They are Father Killian Loch, O.S.B., of Wilkes-Barre; Brother Canice McMullen, O.S.B., of State College, and Brother Joachim Morgan, O.S.B., of White Lake, Michigan. Father Killian is currently director of Campus Ministry at Saint Vincent College. Brother Canice is an assistant to the director of vocations and Brother Joachim is an assistant in the Oblate office. Brother Canice and Brother Joachim are also students at Saint Vincent Seminary. Read More

Three men who have spent a year as novices in the Saint Vincent Archabbey monastic community will profess simple vows on Thursday, July 10. They are Brother Ignatius Camello, O.S.B., of the Philippines; Brother Mark Liatti, O.S.B., of Lyndhurst, Ohio and Brother Matthew Hershey, O.S.B., of State College. These monks will then spend three years in temporary vows prior to professing solemn vows, or vows for life.  Read More

Archbishop Rino Fisichella, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, will present the Annual Pope Benedict XVI Lecture at Saint Vincent at 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 18 in the Fred M. Rogers Center. He is a specialist in the theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar, and has taught fundamental theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.
