"I asked him where the shelves were, then he pointed them out to me. They were there on the floor. He said 'it's your job to put them together and fit them in this room. You have until the opening day of school to get this all together,'" recounts Father Flavian Yelinko, O.S.B. The year was 1930, Pluto had just been discovered, sliced bread was just made available to consumers, and Vatican City had just been instituted as an independent state. At this time, the newly appointed Archabbot Alfred Koch put Father Flavian, a young seminarian and Benedictine monk just 24 years old, as the new charge of the Saint Vincent Library. Read More

  Father Maurus Mount, O.S.B., was ordained to the priesthood at Saint Vincent Archabbey by The Most Reverend Lawrence E. Brandt, Bishop of Greensburg, on May 20. Father Maurus is the son of Frank E. and Alina M. Mount of Indialantic, Florida. He is a 1996 graduate of Melbourne High School and earned a bachelor of arts degree in classical languages from Marquette University in 2000. His brother is Michael C. Mount of Indialantic.  Most Rev. Bernard W. Schmitt, D.D., Bishop Emeritus of Wheeling-Charleston, West Virginia, ordained two men to the diaconate at Saint Vincent Seminary on April 22. One of the men, Brother Shawn Matthew Anderson, O.S.B., is a member of the Saint Vincent Archabbey community who is currently enrolled in the third year of theological studies at Saint Vincent Seminary, while the other, Stephen J. Pontzer, is a third-year seminarian from the Diocese of Savannah, Georgia. Read More

 Archabbot Lambert Reilly to Speak to Oblates Tuesday, February 21, 2006
 The Right Reverend Lambert Reilly, O.S.B., will serve as the guest speaker at the meeting of the Oblates of Saint Benedict on Sunday, March 12, at 6:45 P.M. in the Westmoreland Room of Placid Hall at Saint Vincent. Archabbot Lambert will address the topic Oblates, Like Monks, Must Become Better. The talk is open to the public, and admission is free. Archabbot Lambert served as the archabbot of Saint Meinrad Archabbey in southern Indiana from June 2, 1995, to December 15, 2004. He was the eighth abbot and fifth archabbot in the monastic communitys 150-year history. Read More
