Red Mass 1999 Homily of Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk Friday, October 15, 1999
The term Red Mass is used for a votive Mass in honor of the Holy Spirit celebrated at the beginning of a judicial year. The custom of opening a judicial year with Mass seems to have originated in Europe in the thirteenth century. It received its name from the fact that the celebrant was vested in red for the mass of the Holy Spirit, but also from the red robes that judges wore in those more colorful times. Read More

Benedictine Named to Seminary Faculty Tuesday, August 17, 1999
 Father Patrick T. Cronauer, O.S.B., has been named to the faculty of Saint Vincent Seminary. The Summerhill, Pennsylvania, native, who recently received his doctorate in Sacred Scripture (S.S.D.) from École Biblique et Archéologique Francaise, Jerusalem, will be an assistant professor of Sacred Scripture and Biblical Languages at the Seminary. He was also named Director of Solemnly Professed Benedictine Seminarians. Read More
